This week, we really delved into our study of the Fruits of the Spirit by focusing on the first one that the apostle Paul listed in Galatians 5:22-23…. LOVE!
Before getting into our teaching time, though, we had to have some fun! The kids played all kinds of games during Club Time – basketball, football, ping pong and multiple board games. We then played the “sheet game” as our group mixer. This is a great way for the clubbers to get to know each other!
During our teaching time, we started out by going over the Club 45 rules and the saying the theme verse together (Psalm 1:1-3). Then we started our discussion on love. Ms. Betsy talked about many of the things that we “love” – ice cream, sports, our friends. But this kind of love is a feeling and feelings are not constant; they go up and down depending on our circumstances. For instance, if our friend is not being nice to us, we might not “love” them so much that day. Or.. if it’s 100 degrees outside, we might not “love” playing soccer. The kind of love that Paul talks about in Galatians, though, is a different kind of love. In 1 John 4:16, the Bible tells us that “God IS love.” This means that if we have God in our lives, then we have love in our lives. We also looked at John 15:17, “This is my command; love one another.” The God-like love in the Bible is an action; not just a feeling – and the Bible tells us exactly what that should look like, in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (otherwise known as the “wedding verse.”). We also have a perfect example in the life of Jesus. God’s love requires us to love others, not just when it’s easy, but when it’s hard – and He can help us do that as we grow closer to Him.
The clubbers were placed their small groups that they will be in for the whole year; they are grouped by gender and grade. While in their small groups this week, the kids and their leaders discussed various situations that present challenges on how to love others. There was some great sharing! At the end, they were presented with their weekly challenge: Write the name of someone in your life that you are going to show love to. Write down at least one way you are going to show love to them this week.
Congrats to the following clubbers that said the Club 45 theme verse for memory – and got a big prize!! (They are able to do this once per year.)
CJ IPPOLITO, ELLERY ARCHER, JADYN BUTCHER, BELLA CHAMBERS, BARRETT GREENE, NICO DE LANGE, AIDAN SWAINE
These clubbers said the weekly verse (from last week – Galatians 5:22-23) and got a smaller prize:
Barrett Greene, Ava Yee, Bella Chambers, Kendall Beer, Jadyn Butcher, Ellery Archer, Hazel Roy, CJ Ippolito, Adam Kim
We look forward to seeing all your kids back next Monday!
By the way, you may have noticed that your clubber did NOT come home with their Club 45 folder this week! We offered them the option of leaving it at the Cove – to ensure that they don’t lose it and that they have it each week – or taking it home with them. :)
Have a great week!
The C45 Team
