What made you decide to Volunteer?
I’m a helper by nature! I am also a teacher so love working with kids! The main reason I would say I volunteer is that God has placed a value and priority for relationships which is super accessible in volunteering!
What is your favorite part about Volunteering?
I would probably say I LOVE check-in! I love greeting the kids/parents, catching up with them and meeting new families! I also enjoy brainstorming, problem-solving and supporting in any holes that may be left open!

Where were you born & raised?
Upland, California
What brought you to San Diego?
I came to San Diego at the ripe young age of 17 to go to Point Loma Nazarene College. I found my home here and never left! I’ve lived in 4 corners of this city (Point Loma, Encinitas, North Park, Scripps Ranch) and have loved every part of it!
I found Scripps Ranch in my first teaching job over 20 years ago and only dreamed to raise my family here!
What is your job/profession?
I am a teacher at San Diego Unified School District and currently teach at our local Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary!
Married/Family/Children?
Married? YES! This was a blessing I prayed about for many years and God brought me Blake! We’ll have been married 12 years next month! He’s my best friend and partner in life and sometimes in crime! ;)
I have 2 children that are my loves! They love me and strengthen me to be the better myself!
Lucy is 9.5 years old and in the 3rd grade! She is a lover of people and is one of the most adaptable persons I’ve ever met!
Landon is turning 7 next month! He’s all boy and though he looks like he’s 10 years old he’s a sweet little pea inside. He teaches me patience and and loves and accepts me with the dearest affection despite all my mistakes!
Stuff & Random Tidbits
What is your favorite food / restaurant in San Diego?
I would l say any food that is tangy or lemon based! I have this strange addiction to lemon and my closest friends know about my hidden relationship with “Tajin!”
What is one interesting fact about you?
I am a runner. God gave me this activity many years ago in my solidarity. It is a way for me to pray, grow close to God, release stress, get endorphins galore. I have a 21 year long streak with my very first race….the La Jolla Half Marathon!!
What one word or phrase describes you?
Word? Nah. Phrase? Not so much. Maybe a verse…”Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. For the Lord. Your God….. will be with you wherever you go! ..Joshua 1:9 ….a chant I learned in High School and have leaned on this verse in my fear and strength and now have passed it on to my kids!
