Christmas arrived a few months early at Good Rest Mission in the form of a library. The kids stood wide eyed at the room full of books that could take them on adventures to faraway places, historic adventures and bring laughter through silly poems. When Jilane and I adopted Daphlie, we had noticed the lack of early literacy in Haiti had made being a new student here even more difficult. Then God planted a thought in my wife’s mind.
What if we built a library in Haiti? Members of Canyon Springs generously offered their hands, feet and resources to the project. Canyon Springs own Matt Johnson, an architect, volunteered to lay the plans for the library, Jilane found a French/American school willing to donate books and Barnes & Noble opened their door to hosting a book drive, which many of you participated in so we could raise additional funds and books to fill the new library. The handprint of God is all over this new library.
This is just one of the many God-moments we have seen as we look back on 2018. We are grateful for God’s provision and faithfulness that has flowed from your generous stewardship of what God has given to you in order to support His work at Canyon Springs. Let me briefly share a few other highlights. Small groups grew to over 300 participants, the Cove was packed out weekly with over 180 kids and youth learning about Jesus, and many new adult and youth leaders developed, who then poured into others with Jesus’ love. 10 Steps Further reach has grown over 500%, we had 159 adults and youth serving on missions trips, over 500 French/Creole books delivered and installed into the library for the kids at Good Rest in Haiti, and one Fair-Trade fashion show. Canyon Springs Church is all about answering God’s call to GO and BE the hands and feet of Jesus here, there and everywhere.
I’m excited to see what God does this next year. Already people have started to rise to the challenge of meeting the One at 8:30 and 10:30 to engage God in worship. Plans are in the work to go around the world and around our neighborhoods, campuses and workplaces to reach the next one. We are also actively looking for a permanent home for Canyon Springs in order to reach more in our community. That’s a God sized goal, please join us in prayer for the perfect facility.
As we wrap-up 2018 there is still unmet needs in order for us to enter 2019 on solid footing. Will you prayerfully consider making an extra year end gift during this season of Thanks and Giving? Thank you for joining with God and His church at Canyon Springs to expand His Kingdom today.
This past year we have forged some amazing God-sized moments as we seek after Him. Thank you again for joining with us in that journey.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas season!
