A Year of Impact: Reflecting on the Work at Canyon Springs

As we close out another year at Canyon Springs Church, I reflect with deep gratitude and joy on all God is doing in and through this church. Over 20 years ago, Canyon Springs was planted with a vision to serve, love, and make an impact in San Diego and around the world. It’s amazing to see that vision still flourishing today.

I want to highlight two recent stories that have brought me so much joy.

  1. Youth Leading the Way

A few weeks ago, as I pulled up to the church early in the morning, I saw a group of about 13 high school students heading into the building. My first question was, “How did you guys get a key?” And my second question was, “What are you guys up to?” Jason Liku, a high school senior, informed me that he leads this Bible study before school. I was so impressed by this young man. Jason and his peers are not waiting for the world to tell them to step up—they’re already stepping out in faith and leadership. They are learning to disciple each other and lead their generation in their walk with God.

Jason, I want to thank you personally for your leadership and all of our students who set the bar high for what it means to live out the gospel. Stories like these remind me of the great work in our youth ministry. Keep shining your light, Jason—you’re making a difference!

  1. Lives Transformed Through Community

Another powerful highlight comes from our connect cards. I’ve had the privilege of calling those new to the church, and hearing their stories has been incredibly humbling. Many of those coming to faith walk through life’s most challenging seasons. I often hear things like, “I’m going through a divorce and need God,” or, “I’ve been battling addiction for years, and I don’t know where to turn.” These stories of struggle and brokenness show how much people need God’s grace and how powerful the gospel transforms lives.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, Paul reminds us that God’s power is made perfect in weakness. Canyon Springs is where people can come with their brokenness and find healing, hope, and a community that loves them no matter what they’re going through. Thank you for being a part of creating a church that is a safe space for people to encounter God and experience the power of the Holy Spirit.

Thank You for Your Faithful Generosity

We could not be doing this without you. Thank you for your continued generosity through your time, treasure, and talents. Over 70% of our church members serve in some capacity, and I am so grateful for each of you who gives so faithfully. Your commitment to Canyon Springs’ mission allows us to reach more people, serve more needs, and invest in the next generation.

A special thank you also to those who give financially to the church. Giving can stretch us, and sometimes, it isn’t easy. But I know many of you have stories of how God has blessed you in return. Thank you; your faithfulness makes a significant difference.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we look ahead to 2025, our staff has a powerful vision for how we can make a lasting impact on San Diego and the world. Imagine a year where the stories of our students are shared regularly, highlighting the amazing work God is doing in their lives. Picture a future where more and more people experience the Holy Spirit for the first time in our Sanctuary. In 2025, we will continue to build on our missional work with opportunities for trips to Guatemala, partnerships in San Diego, and ongoing relationships with our domestic ministry partners.

However, as we approach the end of 2024, we are facing a budget deficit of $164,000 due to a shortfall in giving. While our attendance continues to grow, the giving has yet to follow suit. We are entering a season where year-end giving is crucial, and we trust God to meet this need.

If you’re already a faithful giver, thank you. If you’ve been considering how to partner financially to help us finish strong in 2024, I invite you to prayerfully consider how you can contribute. Regardless of size, every gift fulfills God’s vision for this church.

Thank you for being a part of what God is doing here at Canyon Springs. Your generosity, service, and commitment are making a difference, and I can’t wait to see what God will do in the coming year.

I ask you to consider making a year-end gift to support what God is doing in our church. You can use one of our tithing envelopes or visit our SAFE AND SECURE ONLINE GIVING PAGE

With gratitude and excitement for what’s ahead,
