A New Hope for Summer and the Return of Midweeks!
For those that caught it, pardon the cheesy Star Wars reference, but we have some news of epic proportions that I’ve been very excited to share with you for some time now.
A New Hope for Summer
Since watching everything that the students lost over the last year, I have been committed to figuring out how to provide something for them this summer. I have had countless conversations trying to figure out what would be the biggest and best thing we can pull off with the highest likelihood of succeeding. That’s not an easy balance.
Knowing that there would undoubtedly be restrictions put on us to pull off houseboats, we didn’t see a way we could do it safely and in a cost-effective manor. An example of just one challenge: To meet the predicted social distancing guidelines for housing, it would mean substantially fewer students per boat and raise the prices of houseboats astronomically. We just haven’t seen a way to do it in 2021 without substantial risk of cancellation or hefty price increases.
Yet, we still wanted to provide a camp experience for students, so we looked for who does it best and turned to Hume Lake. Hume sets the standard for camps around the world, and they are opening a new location not far from Big Bear they’re calling Hume SoCal. With their closer location, we can do it for right about the same price as houseboats. And importantly, Hume has a team of people dedicated to making whatever adjustments need to be made to meet health requirements and still have a quality experience.
Hume SoCal Essential Info:
Dates: Monday, July 5 – Saturday, July 10
Who can go? All current high school students in the 2020–2021 school year, and incoming freshmen (current 8th graders).
When does registration begin? We’ll be launching registration in a few weeks. Stay tuned for the exact date and time, as there will be some great perks for the first students who sign up
Cost: $599 ($125 deposit due at sign up)
How can I help? I’m not sure if the need has ever been greater to provide students an experience like this or a time when finances have been tighter for many in our community. If you’re in a position to help donate towards our camp fund, we’ll be releasing information soon about the best ways to contribute directly, whether that be sponsoring a spot for a specific student or donating generally to help get more students to camp.
