OASIS Youth Ministry
When did you start coming to Canyon Springs?
June 2016
What made you decide to Volunteer?
Jake initially reached out to Chad when we were just about to graduate college because he had heard about the houseboats trip from his younger siblings. Truthfully Jake really was interested in just wakeboarding for a week, but Chad wanted a bigger commitment. Long story short, Jake called Carly and asked what he should do expecting her to say no since we were in a season of so much change with graduation, but Carly said go for it! Then they needed a nurse for houseboats so Carly agreed to tagalong and ended up filling a spot of a leader who was moving shortly after the trip. All it took was that one trip with Oasis, and here we are 4 years later!
What is your favorite part about Volunteering?
For both of us, our favorite part is seeing the growth in relationships with the students over our years with them. I don’t think either of us realized the impact that these students would have on us after doing life with them for 4 years. Sometimes it takes a while to breakdown those walls, but when you see what putting in the time and showing up for these students means to them, its super impactful. Carly still talks to her girls on a weekly basis even as they are off at college and it is just the best!
Do you volunteer with other organzations?
