We’re excited to recognize and thank the Bottomley Family! They have been a vital part of our church community! The help out in a lot of wonderful ways.

What Ministry / Group do you Volunteer With?
We are currently involved in Hospitality, Sunday Tech Team, OASIS Leader and our son Josh has played with the Youth Worship team.
When did you start coming to Canyon Springs?
About eight years ago we were looking for a home in the area and saw the Canyon Springs flags waving on Pomerado Road. We decided to check it out and have been here ever since.
What made you decide to Volunteer?
Volunteering is a great way to get connected and meet people. We also believe that serving helps to remind us of God’s calling to love others and do for others. We chose Hospitality as a way to get our kids to learn about serving at a young age.
What is your favorite part about Volunteering?
Our favorite part depends on who you ask! I think the boys would unanimously agree that preparing donuts is their favorite part. I’ve been surprised over the years at their innovation in learning the most efficient way to get the donuts from the box to the bowl without spilling any. We incentivized them early on that the fewer donuts we dropped, the more they could eat when we finished. Little did we know it would turn into a monthly engineering challenge. For Andy and me, serving has connected us to the church in a way that has given us a sense of ownership and camaraderie.
Do you volunteer with organizations, outside of Canyon Springs
Yes! Rachel and I have served many years with a local Cub Scout pack and plan to serve again as Josh joins a new Boy Scout troop this Spring. We have also been involved with the kids’ sports teams and help out where we can by doing a variety of jobs for them. Andy has led a Small Group not affiliated with Canyon Springs for many years and has just recently put that aside to help with OASIS.
About You
What is your job/profession?
Andy is an electrical engineer who designs integrated circuits that can be found in all kinds of medical (and non-medical) devices such as hearing aids, pacemakers, and neurostimulators.
Rachel has a Physical Therapy license and worked both in-patient and out-patient therapy. When the kids were young, we decided to homeschool and Rachel put aside her work to concentrate on teaching and volunteering.
Where were you born/raised?
Andy was born and raised just outside of London.
Rachel was born and raised in Los Angeles county.
Both our boys (Nathan and Josh) were born in San Diego and have lived in Scripps most of their lives.
What brought you to San Diego?
Andy came here for a nine-month work stint, enjoyed the work, and loved the weather and warm water surfing. He also happened to meet Rachel right at the end of that time and decided he’d better ask for an extension! After that the company offered to relocate him to San Diego. Looking back, he can see God’s hand in it all.
Rachel came to San Diego for college at UCSD, moved to Pennsylvania for graduate school, but came back to settle near family.
Married/Family/Children?
Married. Two beautiful boys (Nathan & Josh).
Stuff & Random Tidbits
What is your favorite food / restaurant in San Diego?
We all love sushi, but it’s hard on the budget. Andy frequents the Kabob Shop. Josh loves Rubios. Nate likes Chipotle. And Rachel is good with anything as long as she can get something gluten-free!
What is one “interesting fact” about you?
Andy – Passionate about soccer but we’re too cheap to pay for cable so never sees any games (except highlights on youtube!)
Rachel – Would rather be playing tennis.
Nate – Raised $800 for his band while “caroling” with friends this Christmas, one of whom also comes to Canyon Springs (shout out to Roman VanderZwart).
Josh – Kills it on the drums (Thanks to you Josh Queja!)
What one word or phrase describes you?
Faithful
A blessed family!!!!
