We began Club 45 with Club Time. This is a time where the children are free to choose from a variety of indoor and outdoor games or just hang out and get to know each other.
Our mixer was a drawing game. Partners lined up back to back. One had a picture of a shape and the other had a notepad. The one with the shape had to describe the shape without naming it, and get their partner to draw the shape. The kids loved competing with each other and working together. They really needed to listen to their partners.
During Club Teaching Time we learned the Third Commandment; Speak God’s name with respect. The words that we speak are a direct reflection of what is in our hearts. We played an interactive game where kids got into teams and worked together. They were all given a type of person (chef, marathon runner, teacher etc). Their job was to come up with a phrase that this person might say. The rest of the group got to match their phrase with an object (whisk, sneaker, ruler etc). They learned that just from a phrase that is spoken, we can make conclusions about the person doing the speaking. It is important to remember when we speak, others can sometimes make conclusions about us. Let’s speak what is in our hearts, our love for God!
We all know bad speech can be a bad habit, and that God wants us to speak His name with respect. We came up with alternative words to say when we have the temptation to use God’s name poorly or out of anger. Here are a few; “Dumplings”, “Oh, pineapple!”, “Oh Rats!”, “Snapple-dapple-doo” We tried to use words that did not resemble any other swear words. Ask your child what word they chose.
We finished our time with our small groups where we talked about strategies on how to control our mouths and what to do at school if our friends are disrespecting God’s name.
Our verse for the week is:
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name.” Exodus 20:7
Every week there will be a weekly verse to memorize. Your child will be rewarded with a sweet treat for each verse committed to memory. Have them find Ms. Michelle to recite the verse during “Club Time”.
Our challenge verse is our Club 45 Theme Verse: Psalms 1:1-3 (It’s on the first page of their workbooks.)
