Our first “official” Club 45 on Monday night was a blast!
We started off the night with our “Club Time.” This is where the kids get to choose from a variety of games and activities, both inside and outside – board games, fooz ball, basketball, football, four square, etc. It’s a great time for them to connect with each other in a very fun and casual way.
The group then came together and we did the “sheet” mixer. The clubbers were divided into five groups and each of those groups was split in half. The leaders held up a sheet between the two sides while one person came forward from each side. When the leader dropped the sheet, the clubber that could say the name of the person on the other side first got the point. Since we are at the beginning of the year and the kids are from all different schools, this is a great way for them to get to know each other’s names. :)
After the mixer, Ms. Chrissy went through some housekeeping items. We went through the Club 45 Rules (Respect Property, Understand Confidentiality, Listen to Others, Every Question is Okay and Speak with Kindness), introduced our amazing Club 45 leaders (see the list below) and passed out the clubbers’ folders. These folders go home with the clubbers each week AND come back with them every week! It has the Club Verse (Psalm 1:1-3), the weekly memory verses that go with each lesson and things that they discuss in their small groups.
This year in Club 45, we will be studying the Ten Commandments. Ms. Chrissy introduced the series by talking about how Moses received the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai. One of the things she talked about was how Moses built a fence around the top of Mt. Sinai because God declared it holy and sacred land and Moses had to protect it from the people and animals treading on it. In the same way, God gave us the Ten Commandments as a way to protect us and keep us safe. She shared a funny story about her dog, Fredo, and how he broke down the gates in their backyard and escaped – and then ran into the street and got hit by a car! Thankfully he was okay. But what Fredo didn’t realize was that those gates were there to protect him. Needless to say, they had to put up new gates?! :)
After the lesson, the clubbers spent some time in their small groups. They did another “get to know you” game – with Skittles! – and then went through some discussion questions.
We ended the night with ice cream sandwiches (because…why not?!).
Oh – and we taught the clubbers our new Club 45 shout out! Have them do it for you!!
This is going to be a great year! Your kids are amazing and we LOVE spending Monday nights with them. Check out the pics below for a peek at how much fun we had…
