As we mourn the fact that we’re not getting to go to VBS again this week, let’s take a few minutes and recap what an amazing week it was aboard the USS Submerged!
Every day last week, we had almost 200 kids (“Bubbleheads”) ages preschool through 5th grade flood our campus to learn about Jesus (oh – and have A LOT of fun!!).
Our key target for the week – and every day – was to find the truth of God’s Word! During Story time, the kids heard five different stories that reinforced our motto for the week: JESUS SEES. JESUS KNOWS. JESUS SAVES! Toward the end of the week, the kids were given the opportunity to personally accept Jesus as their Savior. If they chose to make this decision for themselves, our leaders prayed with them as they invited Jesus into their heart and asked to be part of His family. The wonderful news is….
THIS WEEK AT VBS,
WE HAD 72 KIDS ACCEPT CHRIST!
That is so exciting; the angels in heaven are definitely rejoicing! If your child made this decision and you have questions or want to know more, please reach out to Betsy Roy ([email protected]).
VBS Missions Project
Our missions project this week, through Rio Al Mar, focused on an underprivileged village in Tijuana where the kids are not allowed to attend school unless they have a uniform. We challenged our VBS kids to find ways to earn money at home so we could raise enough money to provide some of the kids in Tijuana with uniforms for school. The kids proudly brought in money EVERY day!
BY THE END OF THE WEEK, WE RAISED ENOUGH MONEY TO PROVIDE 35 RIO AL MAR KIDS WITH SCHOOL UNIFORMS!!
One of the overwhelmingly favorite things every year is the craft rotation. Just last week, over 1,000 Bible and water-themed crafts were created at VBS! Your child probably brought home at least one of each of the following:
- Ocean-in-a-bottle
- Climbing Zacchaeus
- Sailboat with a compass
- Sand and seashell-filled Christmas ornament
- Personalized journal
I personally love the Christmas ornament as it will give you and your family the chance to reflect on VBS 2016 while decorating your Christmas tree in December!
Thank You Volunteers & Leaders
The fact is, it takes a small army to run VBS and it is largely due to the enormous number of volunteers that dedicate their time, energy and efforts all week – and in the months leading up to VBS! – that allow it to run so smoothly and be SO much fun!
- We had 55 small group leaders (“First Mates”) and assistant leaders (“Junior Officers”) helping, guiding and leading our VBS kids every day.
- There were about 100 additional volunteers running and organizing the different rotations – and helping in many, many other ways!
So THANK YOU to every single person that helped out last week; Canyon Springs and all the kids were truly blessed by you!
