We’re excited to recognize and thank Matt Bundren! He has been part of the Canyon Springs community for the past 14 years, and has helped out in so many different ways. We chose Matt this month because Matt is a consistent and hardworking volunteer. He does not overcommit and is incredibly reliable. Matt made the decision to be a part of the ever-important tear down team and he is here every Sunday, helping us with all the responsibilities of the tear down. Not only that, but he leads in it. We do not need to ask him to tear something down, he sees what needs to be done, and does it. Matt is an inspiration to everyone and a leader to his peers.

Matt is a quiet leader that does not seek attention. He leads by example and if others follow his lead. Awesome! Spoiler alert: THEY DO!!!

Oasis (Youth)

When did you start coming to Canyon Springs?

14 years ago.

What made you decide to Volunteer?

I’ve always wanted to serve and help others. I find that by 
helping my community I can grow and develop in my faith as 
well.

What is your favorite part about Volunteering?

My favorite part about volunteering is being able to 
work alongside my friends and go with the crew to 
Board and Brew after church.

What purpose/value/feeling do you feel/gain/have when you are volunteering?

When I am volunteering I feel like I am closer to God every second and it brings me peace that I 
can be a part of something greater. I always like to stay involved and being a volunteer has provided
me with that opportunity and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it with Oasis.

About You

Where were you born/raised?

I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life and in the same house for 14 years.

Favorite childhood memory?

My friends and I would team up and create forts on opposite sides of the valley we live in and go 
”raid” each other’s base. We had secret hiding spots and a jail which just made it even more awesome.

What brought you to San Diego?

I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life so my parents brought me here in a sense.

What is your job/profession outside of Canyon Springs?

I am a senior student athlete at Del Norte High School.

Stuff & Random Tidbits

What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?

Either Tom and Jerry or Cyberchase.

What is your favorite food / restaurant in San Diego?

Hodad’s down in Ocean Beach, they have the best burgers in San Diego.

Who is your favorite sports team?

The Chargers!

What is one “interesting fact” about yourself?

I want to be a pilot even though I’ve never flown a plane before.

What one word or phrase describes you?

Viva la Vida!

How many donut holes do you eat each week in the courtyard?

3 every Sunday.

Anything else unique or interesting you can tell us about yourself?

I don’t like fish unless its raw from a sushi bar, I play Rugby, and I love being outdoors.
